problem with tall valve covers

i am rebuilding my lt1 with a 383 stocker, i have the stud girdles and have the conversion kit to make the old style valve covers to fit, and have a set of tall valve covers. the valve covers dont clear the alternator of coarse. me and my machanic came up with a plan for a smaller performance alternator to fit in and clear the valve cover. it only has to be about an 1" shorter. he has a friend that makes them. another option i found on the web is alternator relocation brackets, they are about $200 and you keep the ac and power steering. but i really would like to use the smaller alternator. has anyone heard of this, or have any input to add? thanks

Nope cant say that I have ever heard of it. What is the amperage of the smaller alternator? Is it the same or less? If its less you could cause other issues down the road. I dont remember exactly where its at but there was a site that showed how to grind on the alternator to get it to clear other valve covers and such, so you might want to try to do a search on here or Google. If I find it I will post it up as well.

Yeah it definitely needs more amps than 100
