intake gasket info
ok maybe you allready know but i have to find out the hard way certain things that involved changing out the plenum and lower intake gaskets on my 95 camaro 3.4 m5.
first the obd1 computer has an obd2 connector and unlike the lt1 there is no free software you can download to scan or tune....autozone doesnt carry od1 scanners and if they did they probably would not know how to use it.... however advanceauto (not all) do carry the obd1 scanners...all you have to do is ask them to add a obd2 connector that comes with it and it will work..or atleast it should second if you need to change out the lower intake gasket you WILL HAVE TO TAKE OFF YOUR ROCKER ARMS....so make sure you check out shoebox site and read the "how to" section on setting valve lash with the motor turned off....i turned the hub with a breaker bar intill i got number one piston top dead center...the hub will have a slit on it so put that at 12 oclock....to make sure its right take off your number one spark plug and witha long ziptie taped to the end of a pen put it in....watch it come out then as its starts to go back down you now more or less wher is tdc for number 1 piston is at....and you can compare to where your hub is marking it at. third if you by the felpro gasket kit from advance auto, zone, pepboys, etc ...pn MS 93020 know that it will come with uneccary items....and you will have to buy the tb gakset seperate since the one in the kit is not the right size.... however if im not mistaken it is still cheaper to by the kit.....if choose to buy the gaskets seperatly you will need(some are not needed but i recommend) valve cover gaskets, lower intake gasket, plenum gaskets, tb gasket, and a small gasket that connects the egr tube to the passenger front side of the intake plenum...so if you can get all these seperate and cheaper than the kit go for it...but the kit comes with all except the tb gasket and the valve covers gaskets are normal material not rubber like some other felpro i really recomend you get a torque arm becuase if you mess up and need to take the valve covers off you will have to take off the entire upper plenum to do it again...plus you need it for the intake bolts, plenum bolts, fuel rail bolts, etc. fourth.....i used to take about one hour in changing my spark plugs and wires....ive done them on these cars a few times and thats the best i can do....however next to the egr there is a metal bracket as well on the driver side next to the oil dip stick...these brackets it seems to be to hoist the motor out...however i took these off and now i changed the spark plugs and wires in 15 minutes....best part no cuts on my hand. five....take a picture or note the way the vacum lines go because in the back of the intake from the harness is a very small vacum line when disconnected falls back and wil be very hard to see. again everything might have been posted or said but i coulndnt find any of this info when i started reading and doing these replacements ....if any knew one comes up ill let ya know...and if something isnt right let me know. |

intake gasket info
All good info thanks for sharing. Did you know the lifters must go in before the heads go on a 3.4. I installed the heads and couldn’t get the lifters in. Lucky for me the engine was on an engine stand not in the car.
I found out the hard way. 10YO |
