Coolant passage??

ok on my motor directly above the oil filter is some kind of circular body that has coolant lines running to it. I guess im not very familiar with LT1's reverse coolant flow systems. where is the passage that feeds this...and how is the coolant separated from the oil in this structure??

Ok well I feel rather stupid...When i removed the lines a small amount of coolant came out and the inside looked to have the same corrosion that I would see in the coolant system. So i figured it had something to do with that system... o well
