help on hedder and pipe size

I have a 81 z/28 and putting a 454 bored .30 over with about 9.1 compressiion and edelbrock performer package. The heads have larger valves installed and been port matched and bowl ported and blended. I have a turbo 400 I am going to use. I have 2 questions about this setup and hopefully someone is running the setup I'm looking for. I can go with either 1 3/4 or 2 inch hedder pipe and I can go with either 2 1/2 or 3 inch exhaust... Which setup would be better for the street?? Has anyone run one of the Holley Street Avenger carbs?? I thought about running the 770 or 870 model but local GeeK Speed Shop (knows gobs of information without even having a car) says the 670 would be better...Any thoughts appreciated.

Thumbs down holley carb

i had a holley carb on my 355 and it worked really well for the first 2 or 3 weeks, but it really didnt proform that well after that. with a holley if they backfire one time they need to be rebuilt. i am now using a edelbrock 600 on my 406 and it works great.

Go with a 1 7/8" primary tube and a Holley 750 vacuum secondary.
I run 2 1/2" exhaust pipe with a crossover tube before the mufflers, this makes for a quiet ? but deadly exhaust system.

I had a holley backfire once and it caught on fire. Unbeknownst to me, it was blazing within 3 minutes of parking. I lost the car, but salvaged the motor. I will NEVER buy or use a holley again.

the only holley brand i would use is demon. the standard holley is garbage. eldebrock AVS is probably the best street performance for the buck next to the demon.

Post what size?!

i have a 670 on my 350 and it works great(i had to jet it up 2 sizes and thats all) i run 2-1/2" exhuast with flows and a crossover pipe! i'd go with the1-7/8" headers with 3"(scare the hell out of people when you fire it up and piss off your neighbors in the morning too! ) pipes!
