Cat

Ok i have a 94' rs 3.4. I have a rattle in the converter that ive had for a long time. I removed the heat shield...thought that was the problem...and it didnt quit. Its almost like something has broke loose inside. Havin OBD1 with one o2 sensor up near the manifold..would run rough if i deleted the cat. I know its illegal and everything, but ive heard conflicting advice from a few of my mechanic buddies...some say it will run rough...some say it will run better with better gas mileage due to less restriction. If anyone has any expirence or have tryed this...what was the outcome...any help will be great...thanks

It will run fine with the cat deleted off the car.

either get a magnaflow hi flow cat or run it without a cat. if u have emissions u might want to opt and put one back on. what happened is the material inside the converter is breaking up and will either get plugged up or break up and restrict the rest of the exhaust

yeah i talked to a few guys today about that. Its got 121K on it now and ive had it for about 6 years and i know its never been replaced. Its more annoying than anything. I know its not functioning because of the smell of gas from under the car...and im sure the flange isn't in the best of shape either and im sure i got a small exhaust leak. As far as emissions go ive never had to resister it. I know up in chicago they do..but i live about an 1-1/2 hours from there...and go to school at Southern Illinois-carbondale...and i know for a fact they dont test anything here. when i get back home the converter is getting cut off. thanks for the replys

i hallowed the cat in my 87 and it runs alright. sometimes it runs rough but that is due to needing an emmisions hose.

I used a Catco on my 96 3.8l Firebird. OBDII instead of OBDI but it worked great for the price. Summit about $40.00 when I bought it a few years ago.
