boost retarder

ok just got this SC'd camaro, trying to understand the whole system so sorry for sounding like a ediot but its my first SC'd car. it has a vortech VT-1 charger i believe?? setup to make 7psi, has a procharger MSD ign box on it and it it has a dial for boost retard that runs to the dash, knob goes from 0-3 the guy i bought it from said it was dyno tuned on 0 and to just leave it there, just curious what exactly does this knob do?

I'm going to take a quess and say it allows you to manually change how much boost the charger is putting out.

I would bet that if you went to the Vortec website and did some research and the procharger website and did some research on the componants that you have installed it would help you to understand the operation of them.

It is there so if you do run more boost you can retard the timing accordingly. The more boost you run the more timing you take out of the ignition. Its basically the same way you would run nitrous oxide. The more your engine intakes the more timing you take out so your engine does not detonate and explode your internals.

fanta is corect and the gauge 0-3 is the amount of timing its goin to pull out for every pound of boost so if your making 7 psi and the dial is on 1 its goin to pull 7deg out, 7 psi on 2 is 14deg, and on 3 is 21degs.
