The 302 was a limited production engine and was put in the 69 Z/28. I think it was made with a 327 block and some different heads, im not too sure. It was a real work horse and it could outrun pretty much whatever challenged it.......except the Mopars.

THE CHEVY 302 WAS ACTULLY A 283 BLOCK WITH A 327 CRANKSHAFT WITCH MADE THE 302. GM MADE THE FIRST STROKER ENGINE IN THE 1969 Z-28 WHICH WOULD REV UP TO 7000 RPM WITH EASE. BUT IT WAS ONLY MADE FOR TWO TO THREE YEARS...

ok keith get your facts right. the 302 had a 4 in bore the 283 dose not but the 302 and 283 share the same storke so in other words a 302 is a de stroked any motor with a 4in bore. but the actullal 302 was not made of mix matched parts it had a different crank bore for the mains. but the 302 was a full blown bad ass chevy motor tell your ford fool friend to read up and stop spreading lies. the 67 z/28 was a very rare car that carried a 350 the 68 had some 302s and mostly 350s the 302 was an optional engine code.

The 302 was produced from 67-69.
It was rated @ 290 HP and was available in camaros and trans am's. This motor was produced for the can am races. The rules of the race was no more than 305 CID displacement and it had to be an engine available in at least 10,000 regular production cars. The engine has a 4" bore and a short 3" stroke. The 67 was 2-bolt mains and small journal cranks, the 68 and 69 were 4-bolt mains and large journal cranks. You can look in my casting lists on the parts ID section and in the intro it is listed and in the small block, block castings it is listed. Probably the most famous of these engine is the 69 DZ suffix engine. This particular suffix had the highest production number of all the years. In 67 the RPO suffix codes were MO and MP In 68 the RPO suffix code was MO (MP was dropped) In 69 it was the infamous DZ All were backed by 4-spd transmissions and topped with a single Holley. These engines were also avalible in the Trans AM as well as the Z-28's |

You are correct. The 302 boss mustang was produced spesificly for these races. The chevy came out on top in the 67 and 68 years until porsche introduded an 1100 HP twin turbo car in 69 for the same races and ruined the races for everybody.
With there 2.5 liter size they were allowed the turbos and since these cars were production (single turbo model) they met all the requirements for competition. Incedentaly I don't remember ever hearing about any can am races after 1969 or 1970. |

Please, all of you, if you don't know what you are talking about don't spread falsehoods.
1 The 302 was produced 1967 thru 1969. 2 all 302's used the currently (at that time) produced 327 block. 3 67 302's were small journal blocks and all were two bolt main. 4 68-69 302's were large journal blocks and all were 2 bolt main. 5 All 302 cranks were forged. Same stroke as 283 but different. 6 302 engines were never offered in Pontiac Trans Ams. 7 All had forged pistons, with 69 being floating pins. |

And also during the years 67-69 ALL Z-28's had the 302 engine.
The Z-28 option WAS the 302 engine along with mandatory power front disk brakes and other required parts such as the special 4 leaf rear springs. There were no Z-28's with 350 engines (optional or otherwise) until the 70 model year. |
