New race battery

Installed a new 16 volt race battery in the 68 Camaro. The difference in cranking speed is impressive. Had an Optima red top in it, (1050 cold cranking amps), and it would turn it OK cold but when the engine got hot it could barely move it. This is a 14.5-1 632 cu. in. motor.
The 16 volt only has 650 CCA but the cranking speed is much higher.
The true test will be at the track. With the 12v after the initial pass the motor would always crank slowly. A heat shield on the starter did no good. This has been a problem with all my high compression race motors and others have had the same problem. Even 2 12v batteries did not solve the problem.
