cutting foam behind grill (camaro)

im sure this has been talked about before, but im not sure what words to search under, but anyway....

would there be anything to gain, cooling, induction, or otherwise by cutting a hole in there? or is it unsafe/a wast of time?

i have not done it, nor have i seen it in person, but i have seen pictures on LS1tech of cars at speed without the foam bumper support and the bumper was all warped and nasty looking
im sure if you rigger up some way to get air directly from the opening down there it would work, but as far as just taking everything out back there i doubt that it would do anything

Nothing to be gain. That form is also in there for safety incase of a front end crash so you really dont want to remove it.

i wasnt thinking of removing all of it, just cutting holes out and leaving the rest of it intact. What is directly behind the foam?

wouldent do it, if you want more air in get a Austin ram air kit it takes air right from under your nose cone one of the cheepest and best mods I've done gained like 2 to 3 mph and almost 2 10ths of the 1/4. If you want to go the cheep way look at the ram air free mod on install university.
If your car has a over heating problem then thats not the way to fix it they make all sorts of coolers for our cars tranny, power steering ect.

No....there is a plastic air deflector that the bumper acculy pins to and leads the air from the bottom of the car...off the air dam and into the lid....why try and change the way the car naturally recieves air? The only time its worth to remove is for a big ol' intercooler.

Yeah, no benefits other than getting that nasty looking foam out of there. Lots of downsides that I've heard from people doing it in the past.

You might be able to get some painted covers to slip over the foam if that's why you're doing it.

See ya on the road,
Matt
