bad fuel pump question

ok if you been following my other thread "ICM or coil", youll know where im coming from, lol! is it possible for a "dying" fuel pump to heat up i guess you would say when theres a low amount of fuel in the tank but then work fine when full ? pump is a racetronix 255 with the hotwire kit that runs directly off the alternator. it has a full tank now so im gonna run it down and hook the gauge up to it again, if the pump is the reason its stalling what would my gauge show as its stalling out? i know at idle it maintains 38psi so what should it be reading with the key on engine off? thanks

It should drop 3-10lbs when at idle. You can test for WOT by pulling the vacuum source on the FPR, this should give you back your 3-10lbs of pressure. If the pump is doing as you are thinking, you would slowly lose pressure at the schrader valve until your engine dies. I think it is entirely plausible what you are suggesting about the pump reducing pressure as your fuel gets lower ... the fuel is how it cools itself. If it were to start heating up a little bit, it might lose efficiency and therefore lose pressure. I think Rob has some suggestions on his site (www.shbox.com) about the pump and checking out (but I bet you've already been there.)
