Anyone know what this came on ?

I found this intake in a pile of parts I got from a friend a while back it has a date code of 5 23 68 and a part # of 14096242 it has both holley and spread bore bolt patterns , and is a tall large runner intake ... and heres the strange part its cast iron ... I cant remember ever seeing an intake that looks like this that was cast, it's allmost a twin to the aluminum Z/28 intake in shape ... actually thats what i thought it was until I allmost broke my arm trying to lift it with one hand !! I dont have any reference to what it might have came on originally anyone have an idea or know what it is ?

NOPE , not even close the 305 intakes on the early 80s Zs kinda look like that but their aluminum ...I have acouple in the shed , this is cast iron and like mentioned above it has a date code for the 1968 model year which means it had to come off of a 68-69 model car or be offered in that time period ... this is like a test except I really dont know all of the answer, LOL good try though !

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it's the intake manifold that came on the 295 Horse 350 for the Camaro?

It's actually a small block intake

I forgot all about the Vette ,Duh! It could very well have been from a Vette. I recall back in high school we rebuilt the engine for a 69 Vette and i want to say that it kind of looked like that. The car belonged to a Dentist, who the hell lets high school students rebuild the engine on a Vette? LOL!!!

I´d put my money on a high rise cast iron marine intake (similar to aluminium Z/ 28 intake, maybe Mercruiser because of the black color... or was it black.) or 4-barrel high rise Iron Holley. BW: Micco

I can tell you its NOT a first gen Camaro intake. They all started with 38 or 39 in the casting #. I'll check my parts manual, but it only goes to 1975.

Here you go, I found this at a site selling the intake:

"This Bow Tie part is the best stock cast iron (casting #14096242) 4 barrel manifold available.

In stock form it will produce more power between 4500 and 7000 rpm than any other stock Chevy manifold. Commonly referred to as a “Marine” intake, this manifold is a cast-iron copy of a Z-28 high rise aluminum intake. The marine intake is equipped with both carburetor bolt patterns, is 1.250" taller than regular intakes and was not available – in cast iron form – on any production cars"

I'll dispute the Z28 claim as z28 intakes were designed for Holley square bore carbs, and were designed for the highest performance application Chevy had specifically built for were probably still better intakes.....

GOOD JOB !!and it dident even take you guys very long !! every once and A while I find something strange like this and it's fun to see how long it takes to ID the part... the only thing I left out about the description was the bowtie cast into the intake but if you looked hard you can make it out behind the carb flange ...I had a pretty good idea what it was then I looked it up in my GM performance parts catalog , but it still is a good conversation piece

the intake at hand is a 1990 cast iron intake high rise for a holley. looked it up in my factoy part & casting number guide. can you tell me were you found a date code for a 68 intake? maybe some of the casting #'s are not clear. its not even close to a 68 intake. it was probably a 3/4 to 1 ton pickup intake.
