I MESSED UP! Help please!

My girlfriend has been a bit naggy and whiney today. I always listen to what she says but I had to start on my homework and she was over at my place. She was starting to talk to me when I noticed my project, work in animation software, was no longer working. This file is important, and she's talking to me even though I told her what was going on.

I know she just wanted to spend time with me, but I thought to myself, "huuuuuuuush" and it came out of my mouth.

I have a brain-mouth filter problem. I honestly say things that I've thought without realizing it. This is not an excuse. I've actually said the "c" word in front of a room full of feminists because I thought it. Or the time I spoke out loud about abortion at a baby shower because somebody brought it up.
None of these things are mean spirited, it just comes out of my mouth and it's humiliating.
Recipe for disaster.

She was pissed and left my apartment to go back home. I told her I was sorry and she left. She gets quiet when she's upset like that.

What can I do to make it better? I've already explained this problem to her. I know she'll get over it, but she's new and I know that I've done wrong and I want to fix it. I'd like to keep her and I don't want my brain-mouth-filter/ADHD problems messing up our relationship.

I'm really sad now because I upset her.

You go to baby showers? I sort of assumed they were attended by women, anyway I digress. When I mess up I have found that sincerely admitting I was wrong is a good start. The next thing to do is ask that person if they will forgive you. Do not settle for a "Oh that is ok" Get them to actually say "I forgive you". Then do your darndest to not let the same thing happen again, if it does ask again.......

She forgave me. She wasn't even mad about me telling her to hush, she was mad about something else.

She was looking through one of my photography books by Joel-Peter Witkin and she kept asking me these questions. I thought it was interesting. I told her I thought she treated art work like a document. She was irritated that I criticized the way she thought, when in fact I was intrigued by her perspective. Oh well. She'll get over it, I've apologized and asked her to forgive me.

Well if you want my belated opinion... she needs to understand that some things are not worth getting mad at. Best thing to do is forget it and go on.

Since this is resolved no need to say too much. Just pay extra attention to what you are thinking. You can control it jsut have to work at it.

She does get mad at me when she says something and I don't interpret it the right way. The way I'm used to communicating and the way that she communicates are either exactly the same or they are drastically different. I haven't figured out which it is yet. Either way, it throws me through a loop sometimes and that can get me in trouble. But I'm determined to keep her and to be a good man by her, so I'm up to the challenge.

No, she was actually mad at something else. i don't even remember. This is an old thread. She gets mad at me from time to time, but less and less frequently. Means that I am doing better.
