Exclamation lt1 tail lights on ls1

do they fit the exact same? i have an 02 camaro and my tail lights are cracked, both so i need new tail lights and i found some nearby but they are off a 96 z. so will they bolt on in the exact places? or would i need to modify my car in order for the those lights to fit mine? cuz the lights are held together by 2 butterfly nuts as yall know and then you plug in the lights...i'm just wondering if its all the same just different look on the outside...plz let me know so i can get to this guy about not selling these on ebay and letting me pick them up. THANKS!

Off a 96? I'm pretty sure they're different and would take some modifying. If you had a 97, you'd be fine, as that year they switched over to the LS1 style.

Took me a while to remember what the issue what this actually was but I've finally remembered.
Its not the bulbs that give an issue with this swap, its the bulb sockets. The way they lock into place on the LT1's is different from the LS1. The bulbs are different and they way they function is different (if you just tried to do a plug and play you'd only get 1 bulb to flash for the turn signal instead of the whole unit).
At the very least you need an LT1 harness for the sockets (i've seen a few people here offer them up). But i'm still unsure of how you'd wire it up so that the whole unit would blink. I found a way to do it as long as the brakes weren't applied, i'm guessing you'd need to put a relay inline somewhere. *shrug* I'll keep ya posted if I find something.

yea, i ran into that problem with the sockets but my dad was able to fix it with a dremmel (sp?) but it works for now how it is, i'll worry about an LT1 harness later...because i would have no clue how to wire it up unless it came with very good directions and all i had to remove was the the tail lights and no other panels. but yea nobody warned me about the sockets, i was pissed when i ran into that problem haha cuz i was like dang i just bought them and they aren't gonna fit, but then my dad was like "i can fix it!" and sure enough it was fixed. lights do look a lot better. keep me updated on the harness situation because i would like the whole unit to blink as well. thanks!

i'm bidding on a set of lights on EBay. I'm handy with a dremel and most power tools so I should be able to give it a little fix, if not I now know of someone I can ask for help . As for the the harness and rewire i'm still trying to work that out in my head. I've got a Haynes manual with all the wiring diagrams in the back so i'm gunna study that for a little while and see if I can find out where the difference lies. I'll keep ya posted but most of this hinges on how cheap I can get a set (not gunna say the price since it still has some time left and its a nice price right now). I'll keep ya posted.

i swapped to a 98+ style tail lights (they're altezza's, not stock LS1's) i had to cut a little into the berger panel, and trim the light plugs to fit into the sockets. I used my stock lights. took a little to get them rotated just right to fit, but I imagine you can do the same going from LS1 to LT1.

btw, did you win the auction? cus if not I have a set of tail lights collecting dust Ill send you some pics if you want.
