Whenever I totalled my car about 2.5 years ago and was putting it back together I cut some holes through the safety comb about the size of your fist. I saw a good opportunity for a cold air intake. I didn't see any change in operating temps. I haven't had any problems with anything hitting the condeser or radiator. You can't see the holes unless you get down and look through the grille up close and you don't find to many people doing that. I couldn't tell any difference in gas mileage or power. All I've noticed is more dust, dirt, and bugs in my air filter because I've also got the free ram air mod done to the air filter box. Like HMFDZ28 said, there is a piece of plastic in the way but mine got left out(on accident )when I put the car back together. I would say don't do it. It's not worth the dirt in your filter.

A "Mustang Dyno" has air flow and changing load conditions to truly test how the car's gonna perform on the open road
