Skipping/Slipping question

Sup guys quick question for you gearheads. I took my 86 Ta to the strip this weekend during my 2nd pass i lauched off the tree perfectly and it seemed like just before the car was going to shift out of 1st gear the tranny slipped and the motor just kept reving.( A SMALL CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE CAME OUT THE TAIL PIPES) I let off the pedal and punched it again and i continued to make the pass down the track. As i was going back to the pits the car felt like it was skipping. Im thinking i fouled a plug or wire. The tranny still seems to shift and drive perfectly i just have this skipping problem ANY Ideas?
