1980 Z28 on Ebay
Anyone familiar with this car? This is exactly what I've been searching for. I think he wants in the low-mid $20's for it. Obviously priced over high book, but considering the mileage, I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. I'm trying to find out how it was stored, but was curious if anyone else has stumbled onto this car and knows anything about it. Thanks.

There was a black Z/28 with the red stripe package on ebay a few days ago around the same price and mint condition. Are you looking for a nice car? or something original with #'s matching?

Yes, looking for something 100% original or original restored with low mileage in black. In my mind, the storage of the car will tell you a lot about how it as cared for. It could be an almost new car like this one, but I'd be concerned about dry rot on the tires, hoses, belts, seals, etc. I'd hate to spend the money to get it and then find out all of this needed replacing.

i guess i can see where you are going with that. if you notice the car has texas plates on it but its now in florida, no shortage of excessive heat there LOL, that would help with dry rottening. hopefully it was climate controled storage.

UPDATE in case anyone is interested. This 'original' camaro was exactly what I was looking for. With an investment like this, I hired an inspection company to review and appraise the car. Not original paint and poorly repainted, has been hit on the driver side (lots of filler), the tires are dry-rotted, and the mileage is not 5,000 miles. This is just the verbal report, so the written is still pending and many more issues may still be presented. So my search continues, unfortunately this car has met reserve and someone is going to get burned. I'm contacting ebay to see if they can stop this.

The issue with these cars is they are OLD and have probably been through many owners and usually (most) have not recieved the greatest care over the years..
and add on to that, auction dealers and unscrupuless dealers and Profiteers that try to pass sub standard cars as Rare original ones make finding an actual low mile original car that much harder .. Ebay is not where I would be looking for the most part I would try Publications like Hemmings and also plan on traveling to inspect a car your self or hire someone who is able to do so .. it's so hard to document anything that is that old unless you can find an original owner ... I wish you luck...

wow, that buyer is badly burned. the trouble with people is they know what words to use to pique the interest of the fringe of our hobby. they say "survivor", and someone who just barely knows enough to keep himself out of trouble sees that and figures it's worth the bucks. obviously, those in the know would not plunk down a chunk of change that large without at least seeing the car yourself or having a reputable service check it out for you. as they say, a new one is born everyday...

Actually, some of the best cars I've bought have been on ebay. You just have to be a smart buyer and yes, you must inspect yourself or have a reputable third party inspect it for you. On this one I did and posted this thread because I was suspicious of the seller. In the end, I now have the camaro I want and as for this one, I'm working with the inspection company and the Florida Highway Patrol on an investigation on the seller of this car.

By the way - the buyer of that car was actually the owner of the car bidding against himself to drive up the cost. Luckily no one actually got burned and if I have have anything to do with it, this guy will be shut down permanently.
