throttle body spacer

i recently put on a K&N Air Intake kit and was told by a friend to get a throttle body spacer, i know it increases hp and fuel economy but what else does it do? and anyone know where i can get one for a 2000 ls1 z28?

they dont really do anything for our cars.. its a mustang kinda thing, etc.

It does? By how much? I thought all they did was pad the cofers of the companies selling them.
