car will not start

ok so when i went to start up my car this morning, it made a very loud static noise, similar to watching a tv with no cable connection. car does not start what so ever, just this hideous noise. called my dad and he thinks it may be the battery or solenoid. i checked my lights and radio etc and they all work just not the car. There is no crank of the engine or anything. any feedback would be much appreciated! thnx guys

If the solenoid was to go out usually all u would hear is a slight clicking sound. I had a horrible sound like u are having on my 89 camaro when a tooth came off on the flywheel, i had to rotate the motor with the bolt through the crank pully to get the car to start and just prayed when i would go into town that it wouldnt land on the bad spot

thnx for response. we checked the teeth on the fly wheel and they were all fine. we did get the engine to turn over once without horrible sound but then when we tried to start the engine again it made the grinding noise. im 99% positive that what happened was that when it started right the first time the teeth from the starter gear just barely were in with the fly wheel and it got kicked out again to. we are gonna try to set the starter in tightly so it cant move and see what happens. wish us luck!!

alrite an update to my dilema. got the starter in fine wit the flywheel but now it seems the transmission is locked like the fly wheel is caught on something. i started the car and it vibrated and made loud clanking noises until the engine shut off cuz it got caught. It is almost like something is within the bell housing that shouldnt be there and getting stuck in the gears. im at a loss and need more feedback!! do i have to drop the transmission or something. please help guys

Tom, don't forget that the flywheel has 11:1 compression holding it back lol. It should still turn, just a little hard. The TC should turn quite easily though.

thnx for the feedback. do you kno what the clanging noise is before the engine turned off? it sounded like something broke loose and got caught within the transmition or engine block

Scroll up and read what I wrote. I told you what to check, as well did others.
