The other day me and a freind went to look at a 99 SS and when I went to look under the hood the ram air is not functional, I thought that was standerd with a SS. The tire size thing in the door said 275's on it so I think it was real, but no real ram air?

Yes all the 98-02 Ram air hood are functional. They are kinda worthless but yes they are functional. The air comes in and gets pulled through two tunnels towards the front of the car down into the intake pickup. A fake SS typically does not have the black mesh screen in the pickup on the hood, as they usually have a billet cover unless someone is using an SLP hood. If it had the tire sticker that read 275-40-ZR17, then it's most likely the real deal.

on the GM code sticker look for the code WU8, if it is there it is a real SS, the code Y2Y then it has some optional SLP equipment.
