Yes, they made SS cars with automatics. You can call SLP and they can tell you what all they did to your car by the VIN code. $5000 is not too bad for the car, but you need to find out what the salvage title was all about. It may lead to more issues down the road. If the car was hit hard and totaled back in 1998-2002, I would probably pass because the damage had to be pretty severe to total it.

My car is a '98 SS w/ SLP options w/ an auto, and so is my brother's '02, step-dad's '02 and '97, and dad's '96, so yes, they definitely made them w/ autos.

Cool yea he says it was minor damage to the front and all was profesionally fixed. Im going to go look at it and maybe offer 4400 or so. How much hp is the slp package sposd to add?

I would have to say 5-10 rwhp tops. Its advertised at 320 or 325, but an LS1 is an LS1. If you take a bone stock SS and a bone stock Z28 to the dyno, the only edge the SS really would have would be the catback. The lid might help a little, but the factory ones really weren't that bad. They are usually pretty close (auto are usually 280ish rwhp). Miinor Front end damage would not total that car. Being an SS with under 100K miles, it would take at least $7K in damage to total that car. It had to have some frame damage or something. You really should check into it more.

let me go check what the email said. I thought he said light front end damage. I have seen things that should deffinatly not have salvage titles though. I have seen cars with very light hail damaged get salvage and small damage sometimes end up getting salvage titles. I guess it also depends on the state.

the damage was in the front
> replaced > > whole front clip with fenders hood and drivers door, > no > > suspension damage or frame damage at all Ok maybe not so light, but it doesn't sound to bad. Have to look it over good when I see it

Yeah I'd take the car somewhere and have it looked at closely before you buy it with that salavaged title. And fyi its not about the fact that it went to SLP its what options it actually has but they don't really ad alot of hp, its mainly the hood, wheels, and spoiler along with the fact that they are numbered cars. But yeah like by brother said there are plenty of auto SS's.

If he works at a body shop, have them put it on a frame jig to check the alignment of the frame out. And, my wife has a 97 that got scratched all to hell. No "damage", just cosmetic. And, they wanted to total the car cause the paint and glass was worth more than the car. So, light damage can total these out. To be honest, I'm surprised that they didn't total mine out for my little dent in the quarter.

All in all, if the car drives straight and has even wear on the front tires, I would buy it. My car has a rebuild title and the front clip was replaced. No problems with the alignment or wear. In the end, you may suffer on resale.
I have so much money into my car, it doesn't matter to me. A total of $18K includng the purchace of $4500. I will keep it for a long time. $5000 is not alot anyways. I say go for it.

It's either 320 or 325 at the fly. A4's and M6's are rated at the say hp.

I've heard that but idk if it's true. I know the later year cars (01-02) seem to dyno higher so GM might have keep what they were rated at the fly lower.
