Odometer problem

My digital odometer in my 00' Z28 6spd has stopped moving. The vehicle speed sensor works, the wiring is all working, the speedometer is working, but the miles don't move. I have been told that there is a chip on the back of the gauge cluster that retains the milage amount. Is this true, if so where is this chip and if I change it will the milage read "0"? Or is it all held in the computer? Anyone know the answer??

I believe the PCM stores the mileage data on OBD2 cars.

Yes, the PCM and the gauge cluster both hold the mileage.

So then I would need to change the gauge cluster and the gauges to fix the problem?

If you change the cluster, it will show the correct mileage because the PCM will send the info to it. (at least I think it will)

Try reseating it, if that does not work, yes you probably will need a new one.
