No we have not raced, I was transferred to another shift and haven’t seen the guy in over a month. We will sooner or later. I haven’t had the cash to do any mods to my car yet so I am kinda glad. I think I would win because I ran a Cobra about the same year and I was shocked how far I pulled him, But I bet the guy I work with has done some mods by now, silver spoon if ya know what I mean.

Ok i havea 95 Z28 and WHEN it was stock i had no problem beating on Cobra's ranging from 94-99, If i remember right Ford was completely embarressed when the 99 Cobra motor came out that was rated at 320 hp but more like 250 cuz it SUCKED... that's why they took it off the market for a year and brought it back for 01. I have respect for the cars, but they really are no comp for our camaro's.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I could shed some light on the performance of the 96-99 Cobras for future reference. They will not run with a fourth generation F-body stock. They do respond very well to 4.10 or 4.30 gears though. I have seen a 98 with 4.30 gears, sticky tires, and free mods run deep into the 12's. With a few boltons they are capable of very high 11's. It is amazing how much difference a deep gear makes in them. If you run across a stock one with stock gears(I think 3.55), they are a very high 13 second car with a driver. A blower or turbo really wakes up the 4 valve heads too. With a blower, gears and sticky tires they run 11's pretty easy. Just FYI.

DUDE Just race him!! We are all waiting here!! My friend has a 98 Cobra and from a dead stop it pulls hard, so I know they are not weak, but I also heard that they didn't pack the power they were supposed to.
If it keeps on going like this, you are going to hear stories about that ONE mustang with all these mods beating Z28's. It's going to mess with your head that you won't race or if you do, you will be nervous and mess up. Yes, modified mustangs will be stock Z28's, but just ask what kind of mods they have.. add the same to your car and there you go! Bottom line; you have an LS1!!! YOU WILL WIN There will always be cars out there with mods, not just mustangs that will be faster, but motor to motor.. no contest with that Cobra. Just beat him so the rest of us can move on with our lives!!!! ![]()

Here are some links so you can see how a stock 99 Cobra and stock 99 LS1 stacked up on the same day at the same strip with the same driver. This is obviously one of the 99 Cobras that didn't need to go in for the recall.
1999 Cobra 1999 LS1 the 98 you are referring to has about 15 less HP than the 99 Last edited by realisticstange; 12-31-2003 at 10:28 AM.. |

I don't know how true this, but a friend of mine bought his wife a 98 Cobra, and he says that he specifically waited for that model year because they have 320 hp. I have seen the car and it is not the new body design that is current, it's definetly the 94-98 body design. realisticstange, maybe you can shed some light on this one as I have no more Ford resources and don't know much about the newer ones.

96-98 were 305HP and 300ft/lb. The 99 and 2001 were 320HP and 317ft/lb. He should have waited another year if he wanted 320HP. It is easy to tell them apart because the 99 and 2001's are the "new edge" design.

I have a 98 Z and I have had no problem with the older Slobras its just the new ones I am concerned about b/c I have not race one any newer than 2001 model.

At columbus state college i was checking into the auto program...for one of the shows they had a 98 cobra 5 speed on a dyno.
It dynoed at 225 horse at the wheels. POO BALL The teachers were ford guys from the "ford asset" program and got mad when i asked if they would dyno my 110000+ mile lt-1 Just race i have never had an issue with even the new cobras on the street or at the track, Just beware of the '03 S/C |

I raced a Slobra just the other day w/ my '00 Z28 A4. I don't know what yr it was, probably somewhere between '99-'02. I don't keep up w/ those POS. It was a stop sign start. He only had a brief view of my tail pipes b/c I was pulling away so fast. So, slobras suck almost as much as their drivers.
