Exhaust Cutout....power gains

My current 1/4 mile time best is 13.25 at 107.3 60' 2.070. I have a 2000 Z28 with the SLP lid and a 6-speed trans. If i were to put a cut out on, or just take my exhaust off before the muffler, what time gains could i expect? would it be possible to hit 12.99?

UMM I dont think you would see a full 2 tenths. Im going to guess maybe a tenth. Dont get me wrong its possible to breal into the 12"s but I dont see it with just the exhaust. Do you have any other mods?

I thought that when you have a better flowing exhaust you loose bottom end and gain top end. When i took the muffler off last week it sure felt like it pulled alot harder into 2nd gear and at the top of every gear.

yea the cutout takes away bottom end torque due to loss of backpressure.

On my friends Ws6 it took out his top end. He had us beat till we hit second gear and next thing u know his car lost it we passed him real easy. He always had a strong take off but he could never pull in the top end.

using a cutout or taking off the exhaust you will see your 60' times go higher but you should decrease your overall time and increase speed. 1/4 mile go cutout, 1/8 mile leave on a good performance muffler. Also if you really want to hit 12's go slicks, that's the only way that you will get all of that power to the ground effeciently. but remember the more power you put to the ground the more upgrades to the rear end you'll need. I see stock ls1's break stock rear ends all of the time, so be smart.

Im not a big fan of cut outs. I think that they usually hurt as much as they help. Id spend the money I would have used on them on something that will make better power. for example headers or a ORY.
