SLP Ultra Z Hood

Im so excited guys, i just placed the order (well my body shop did) for my ultra Z hood! I don't know if you guys have seen it, but it looks awesome. I was wondering if anyone had one or knows someone who had one. Just wondering how much prep work is needed on it. Im no body man, and prep work is expensive! $800 shipped for the hood and another $700 for paint prime and installation. That's only if the hood fits right with no trimming or major body work.

this is what the hood looks like if you're not familliar with it.

Yes, i fixed the dent.
I bought a fiber glass SS ram air hood from Jegs.com and my friend bought a WS-6 style hood for his Camaro. Both hoods did not fit properly at all. Both of them over lipped the front headlights about an inch. The front of both hoods had to be cut to form fit the outlines of the front of the car. Also, the rear hinges that bolt to the hood had to be unbolted and welded about an inch back so the over lip in the front was not there anymore. Look around for better painting prices. I got my hood for $424 and painted and fitted for $500. Shop around. Oh yea, both hoods came NON-functional. I had the body shop guy cut into the hood to make it functional before he painted. That was a pain in the ass to find a body shop that would cut into a fiber glass hood. No one would do it. I found a run down hole in the wall garage shop to do it and they did a great job. Here is a pic of my car with that cut and painted fiberglass hood.

That's what i'm worried about. I called SLP to talk to someone to see exactly what could possibly have to be done. He said the hood was fully functional, which it's advertised that way anyway. He said I shouldn't have to do much trimming if any, and the most that should have to be done is body pannel adjustment. We'll see i guess in a week or so.

Anyone else?
Jeremy

Sometimes you get lucky and have to very little prep work. I know of a guy here in LA that has one on his Z. Go to ls1.com/forums/LA section. He goes by Bayou Boy and is a moderator. He should be able to tell you all about it.

remeber, SLP also makes the SS hood and rear wing as well. The Ultra Z hoods don't need much work at all. I know about ten guys here that have them and all they needed was body panel adjustment, that was all. I would however have them do some extra bracing under it for ya, they are a bit flimsy and very light. have fun with it man. later.
