uh oh, probs

ok, i have had the slight problem of the car shutting off every once and a while because it is running lean. The rpm's drop very low and it shuts off. This started to happen after I ported the Mass Air Flow Housing. Now, i was driving up my hill today and put it into drive(as opposed to overdrive which is what I normally drive in) and floored it. The car didnt jump like it normally does and it also made some funny noises. Then the service engine light started to blink on and off. Any ideas on what this could be? Also I think that I am going to get a stock maf housing anyway, since porting it only adds like 3 hp max? HELP!!

also, I was just on TR.com and saw there was a mass air flow meter from granatelli that said it adds like 10 hp. Is that worth it for $320 or should I just look for a stock one? Also would I need to reprogam for the granatelli or no?

No MAF can add 10 hp. Stock is sufficient for stock heads.

If I were going to get a aftermarket MAF I would go with SLP theirs only cost 160 bucks and is every bit as good as a granatelli. Unless you buy a used stock maf I would get the SLP one.

Those MAFs come already programmed. And I would say stay with stock untill you get heads and cam.

ok, but i dont think that the maf is the problem. The car does not catch right when I floor it. If I floor it the car shakes oddly and the service engine light starts to flash. Something is not right! any suggestions? i am going to take it to the guy who installed all of my stuff and see if he can figure out what is wrong.

Mkydiver covered it.
They are preprogrammed so if you port it it cant register the extra air so it freaks out.

Where can I buy a stock MAF housing from? also it seems like the car is not catching right with the gears. Could this be a prob with the torque converter?

That lean mixture will really mess you up, fast. I had a leaky PCV valve boot, and it was sucking in massive amounts of air, which made the engine stutter like an idiot. That MAF porting probably screwed up that calibration, which brings more air in, which the computer doesn't know to add more gas for. I'd say go with the SLP one, it'd be a good investment.
