Look for some crap called EGR...basically, it's bolted to the front of the pax side head...and the hose goes into the top of the intake mainfold, just aft of the TB...if you don't have any of that junk, then you have LS6...otherwise, you've got a straight LS1.

Some late run 2000's had the LS6, I wasn't so lucky

Here's a question...how did GM get away with not having an emissions item like EGR on the 2001 and 2002 platforms? When I went to install my LS6, and ditch the EGR, the techs at my shop were dumbfounded, thought it was illegal. Any ideas?

That is not true. The 00 LS1 intake does not have an EGR either. The only way to tell is to flip it upside down and look at the bottom.

Gm got away with no EGR by controlling it via cam profile.
Also it is illegal if you are in a smog area, because you do not have the cam that allows this to be used.

I have an 00, built on January 15, and I have an EGR unfortunately..mine was a very early run for that year.

Thanks for the cam info..I live in central florida, so no smog restrictions here!

Yeah some of the late run 2000 had the LS6 intake but most of them were just the regular old LS1 intake. Sucks for us early run guys. While we are on the topic how do you tell if your car was a early or late run??

Have someone run your VIN for ya. A friend at GM ran mine, got back my exact manufacture date, dealership where sent and purchased, and all of the warranty work ever done on her...really clean car.

I think the LS1/LS6 thing is what seperates the early/late run...although I'm not sure how late you'd have to be to have the 6. Does it say anything on your door decal? I'll check mine today when I go out.

I know I have the LS1 because I have a EGR, I was just curious as to when my car was made I like to know as much about my car as possible. I know a guy at a dealership. Ill see if I can get the vin ran for me.
