I did it in my 97 LT1 so I have the same dash as you. To get the stock one out, remove the plastic surrounding it by simply pulled with your bare hands. It'll still be stuck by the ASR and Fog Lamp switches, but those can be pulled out by use of a screwdriver to pry them out from behind. Use a 7 mm socket to remove the 2 screws holding the radio in an then pull it out. Detach the wiring harness and antenna adapter from the back and it should be completely free. To install a new radio, buy the smart harness for the car, the wiring harness for your brand of radio, an antenna adapter for Chevy's, and a dash kit. The rest is all plug and play to put the new one in. I highly recommend an Alpine, they don't look flash but they sound better than anything else out there
