The dreaded swap: V6-LS1....

If all goes well I will have myself a 95 camaro with a blown (as in broke down not supercharged) V6. I have made up my mind that switching to the LS1 is what I want to do no matter how much work it takes. Now- Realistacally how cheap does a LS1 and M6 tranny run off ebay or a junkyard? From what I have read I will need basically an entire z28 for parts, but I am hoping I can pick up what I need from members selling things here and around my town. I know that the suspension will need to be beefed up , is it just a simple spring swap kinda thing? Also, can I drop the whole front axel like FANTA-Z did? If so that would make it much easier. Any links you can provide would be of GREAT help. Also a parts list or anything you think I need to know would be helpful. Please don't post about how much money it will take and how its not worth it. Price estimates are fine, but don't make yourself look like an idiot by doing something I just told you not to. Thanks in advance to all who reply-

EDIT: Upon looking further into it, it seems that the LT1 is significatly cheaper. If I can get close to the same numbers from it, that may be the way I go. Guess my mind wasn't as made up as I thought. At any rate its getting a 5L V* put in it.

You will need an engine, tranny, wiring harness, computer, rearend, springs, shocks, brakes, also an LS1 guage cluster, there are others I will try to think of.

Yep. Because its a V6 you are basically going to need everything changed except the body. The front K section will be ok but youll have to do like what Mykdiver said and change the shocks and springs to handle the extra weight. Especially if you go with a LS1.

Personally If I were you I would hold out and get a LS1. If you are patient you can pick one up for under a thousand off ebay. I know ive seen em go for that. The tranny is the same way. Alot of times there are guys selling a totaled car with the motor and tranny still in and then youd have the brakes and rearend (provided it wasnt trashed)

You will have to change the K-member and suspension but you can keep the rear end as it is the same. The only diff with the back of the car will be brakes. You might want to change the rear gear though. You will also need a different driveshaft. Go with the LS1. Everyone told me that it wouldn't be worth it to do this when I bought my 93. You figure I bought the car for $425 and the whole finished car was going to cost me around $5500 with some goodies. Go and try to find a 01,02 LS1 for even double that. It's way worth it. Keep in mind you should not pay over $500 for the car that your using the body from. You can find them all day long for that.

I have never seen a 4th gen car even without a motor go for less than $500. Where ever it is you get your cars from, I definatly need to check it out.

middle Tennessee. The one I just bought for $425 was complete but needed some wires under the hood. I sold the motor for almost what I bought the car for. Then my wifes uncle just bough a 95 for $500. I always get good deals on cars. I just bought a 92 escort gt for $150 and it just needed a water pump. I bought a 85 rx7 last year for $300 with not a thing wrong. The year before that I bought a perfect condition 78 camaro for $1500 with a strong 350. Plus many more. Just be patient and keep your eyes open. I have a lot of family up there. I'll ask them if they can hook you up.
