Grill mounting brackets

I have a 2001 Z28 and I took the grill off to have it painted gloss black (just think it will look nicer). Anyway, I remember in the past people going through an enormous amount of trouble to salvage the clips when they removed the grill and others who just ripped it off and felt it was easier to buy new brackets.
I took the latter course and just ripped it off destroying the brackets. The problem is, I thought the brackets would be cheaper (5 bucks each at dealer and I need 3 of them). Anybody have other suggestions on what type of brackets to use or where to get them cheaper or do I just need to cough up the 15 bucks?????

Yeah, I agree. Chalk that one up to "Should thought that through a little better" Fork over the 15 dollars and move on. Might find some in a salvage yard, but youll spend more time andmoney going to get them then you will just getting new ones from GM.

Oh yeah, I did think it through. I remember guys from before who said they spent hours trying to gently get that thing off. I just thought someone might have used something other than stock brackets. Thanks guys.

I don't know about your grill, I think mine was an aftermarket replacement since it wass in a wreck, but the posts were perfectly round. Anyway I found a nut that was snug around the post and used a deep well socket to tighten it down. 6 mo later it is still holding fine. Hope it helps
