just wondering
hey guys i think im gonna give up my '92 camaro for an ls1 but i heard in 99-00 there was a head change over, what was bad about the 98 and 99? how much horses were gained btwn 99 - 00 thanks

The only difference was that the 98s had a perimiter bolt pattern, the 99-02s had a center bolt pattern.
The only hp increase was in due to cam, and other items, not the heads. The best years were 01-02 which had the LS6 intake, a different cam, and better exhaust.

Yep Mykdiver is right about that.
In the later production cars I know that there were 2 different plants that cast LS1 heads. One used and old style sand casting and one used a newer style injection casting. The newer style heads have a more uniform and much smoother design and result in about 5 hp or less. There was a thread a little bit ago on it. But I dont think that the earlier LS1 cas had that.

If he has a 02 GT running 8.4 in the 1/8 then he has done alot to it. A stock or close to stock GT at my local track does good to break 9.0. I know that my Z ran a 8.72 when she was bone stock... Id make sure of what all hes got done. It wouldnt take hardly anything to get you faster then him but you wouldnt be out of the box.

he has alot done, see i hang around the mustang queers, the 98 cobra runs 8.4, the 02 gt runs 8.6 (has alot done to it), 96 cobra runs 8.9, the 00 gt runs 8.7, so the rs isnt working for me right now so im tryin to get this 99 z28, im just hoping with a few mods that they cant talk smack no matter. whats the biggest turn around on the ls1
