Used Camaro

Hi There,

I am looking forward to buying a used Camaro Z28 probably 1996 or 1998 ..Could be a 5.7 or 3.6 dont know at the moment..
The thing is,I am not really familiar with american cars and I was wondering if anybody can give me suggestions about this car and any advice about which parts to check before buying the car..Of course I'll check every single part such as brakes,transmission,paint,A/C(as I am living in Dubai this should go first priority) , engine,etc...But experienced camaro users would tell me the most faced problems with the car I hope..Thanks in advance and waiting for replies,as the sound of the 5.7 drives me crazy this is a little urgent
Cheers.

Alper

One thing to look for if you get a '96 with the LT1 is the infamous intake manifold leak. Run your hand along the back of the intake manifold and feel for oil residue. Obviously, don't do this while the engine is hot! And welcome to the site.

Go with a 98. You get the LS1, and alot less problems in the long run. Also not many performace parts are still made for the LT1 because everyone is going with the LS1.

I say go for the LS1 as well. They are a better performing engine to begin with, they have fewer cronic problems like the infamous optispark and bad water pumps. They also get better gas mileage, and they respond better to mods then the LT1 does. Definatly get a LS1 car if you can swing it.
