100 Low Lead Aviation Gasoline...safe?

At the airport I work at, I can get 100LL Octane Aviation gas for relatively cheap....LL meaning Low Lead...my question is, can I use any measure of this stuff in my engine, or will it crap it up? One coworker told me I could do a 2/3 mix of 93 octane and a mix of 1/3 100LL...I don't believe him, so I don't want to take any chances!

Thanks

Well I dont know alot about aviation fuel but I wouldnt run a avery high mix until you have someone that can tell you exatcly whats in it. From what I know about it it has a pretty high mixture of alcohol in it. If it does then no you cant run just any amount as it wont run worth a crap. I think that aviation fuel is very similar to diesel fuel, so how much of that do you want to dump in your tank?

He's right you can do it if you mix it with regular gas, but i wouldn't recommend it though. My brother used to do it with his GTO. Car ran a lot faster, but unsure of effects over time. I have access to JP-8 , but I don't own an F-16.

Oh and Aviation fuel will not run on it's own in a car engine since it has such a high flash point.

Stay away from AV gas, especially in an EFI car.

I meant aviation fuel, as in 100 octane......not JET-A, which is also used as diesel lol.

realisticstange sounds like there's a point....I think the lead in it would hurt my injectors? Won't hurt a carb/motorcycle, I know as some guys steal it to use in their dirtbikes, etc. I still have my cats/factory heads, so that probably makes a difference.

Thanks dudes

One other point I thought I would mention... If you're caught with LEADED gas in a newer car on the streets (even lower lead) there are big EPA fines (from what I've heard).

Not to mention it will foul up your O2 sensors and cat.

Theres on way to tell if you have leaded gas in the tank Also thats why I went to the Denso O2s because they hold up to the race gas

oovert is right, the lead will clog your cat and cause the exhaust to back up very badly. dont use it!

There are ways to tell if someone is running the "Farm Grade" diesel. Doesn't leaded gas have a different smell when it's burned & more smoke?

Farm grade diesel is dyed red. They can tell if you are running it by pulling a sample out of the tank.

Yeah, that's what I meant (the regular is green), but I would think they could take a sample from your tank and test if for lead if they wanted to.

Funny, EPA doesn't stop the planes at at our airport and they all use a 100LL.
Quite frankly, I don't know any pilot that run a 100 no lead, but you can get it. The only thing EPA says to us is don't dump in on the ramp.

If you mix AV gas with any other gas it will turn clear. that is how you know when your planes gas has been mixed and you should dump your wing tanks. I know it works with AV gas when you mix 100LL with 100 or 100LL with 87 or even jet fuel.
