I think they mean the inexpensive mod.'s that are relatively easy to do. The TB bypass is one. (You remove the coolant running thru the TB so it runs cooler. Cooler air = denser air = HP. In theory at least. ) I think you can remove the baffles on the air box too. These are for the LS1. I don't know squat about the third gen.'s and hardly anything more about the LS1.

Yeah the free mods are like removing the EGR system, TB bypass, cutting the base on the air clearner (LS1 only). There might be others, but those stick out in my mind right now.

check out www.installuniversity.com There should be a whole list of them.

Some others would be descreening the MAF and porting your tb. Basically anything that you can do without spending money.

ok well tell me how to do a TB bypass exactly because what 02VTZ is saying is correct cooler air is denser air there for increasing HP but if I removed the coolant from the TB it would be just as hot as the engine was would it not?

The water passing through the TB is used for cold climate vehicles where the there is a propensity for the fuel to freeze. But in normal climate areas where the temp does not get below freezing, the water running through the TB is not needed, infact hinders performance. Warm fuel in warm weather = bad performance. All you need to is pull the two ends out from the TB and join them together with a metal pipe and then just stick caps over the feeds on the TB to prevent any debris from going in there. That is usually good for a few extra ponies.

Definitely check out the link Bow (mr._Bowtie) has provided. It has all of them and is very instructional. Not to promote another site but LS1.com has some very good info too. I check out that site on occasion but the attitude over there is much different then here. They have a FAQ (frequently asked question) section that has a good bit of the stuff you may be looking for.

Don't expect big gains from the TB bypass. You will gain approx. 1 HP. But hey, that's the cheapest hp you can buy! Every bit helps! The free ram air mod is a BIG improvement, trust me! I noticed a VERY noticable difference in throttle response and power. That one's completely free too! The best one! You should gain about 10-12HP from it, I think.......Someone can jump in and correct me if need be.

I am also working on a free Cold Air Induction, too. I'll post it when it's done, I'm in the mock up stages now. I'll put down some good instructions if anyones interested.

Nah, Cooley you got 'em all. Like Mr. Bowtie said, www.installuniversity.com is a great resource for the free mods. I also did the trunk mod that does nothing for performance but makes the trunk lid POP when you hit the release button.

yeah, I just untwisted my rubber stops about two turns. It works better, but not all the time. I'm currently looking for a free spring.......that'll fix the trunk for good.

Oh and the CAI I'm working on is basically the same as a FTRA, just changed a little for better, smoother air flow and approx. 140 bucks less.
