If its the old 1970's or 80's trans am its a high 14 i believe. They do not have that much HP for it being that big of an engine. Its way too heavy.

My dad has a '79 trans am with a 6.6 and a 4 speed. They are rated at 220 hp and 320 ft lbs of torque. His be 1/4 et was high 14s i believe,(but you should the tires on this thing i think they're 225s ). I'm willing to bet some DRs would take close to a second off of his time.

not too mention being seriously choked up from the factory! Did it have the funny exhaust pipes- the stacked dual-duals? Those are funny.

Those old T/As were quick for their day. Their day has passed, but they are nice cars deserving our respect for they were the best Firebirds of their day.

Yeah you have to realize that cars today are ALOT faster then they were back then. They have much more effcient engines and drive train, not to mention better geometry, and tires! In the late 70's high 14's was cookin! Performance had been all but outlawed since about 72. I love those cars and will oen one at some point

I had a 10th anniversary limited addition t/a, silver and it had the 6.6litre 403olds in it, had gobs of torque,I could smoke the tires for 100 feet easy without powerbraking, but it wasnt that quick. I put cam, lifters and springs in it and wow it woke right up but still not as quick as the z

I have a buddy with a 79 T/A 400 4spd. It was hot for it's day. In 79 all the Pontiac 400's came with the 4spd manual. All the 403 Olds were autos.

79 was the last year for the Pontiac 400. Of the 211,454 Firebirds built that year, there were only 8326 T/A 400's.

The Olds 403 was rated at 185hp, the Pontiac 400 was 220hp, and both torqued at 320ftlbs.

There were 282,571 Camaros built in 1979. So, that's about 500,000 F-bodies... the most ever made in one year. In contrast, there were about 72,000 F-bodies built in 2002.

Oh, yeah... generally accepted 1/4 time was 15.3s for the P400.

Sorry to go on... I've always been fascinated by the 79's.
