Spec 3 Clutch

I am looking at buying a spec 3 clutch but I have just now heard rumors of them exploding! Has anyone else heard of this? and if this was a problem would spec change thier design? Also can someone tell me some more about breaking in a new clutch? Take it easy for the first 500 miles is what I have heard. anything else?

I have sold many Spec Stage III clutches and have never seen any problems with any of them. If I may ask why are you thinking of getting a clutch that can handle in excess of 700 hp? A stage II will handle about 500 hp to 600 hp.

Im not sure really. I was told that spec 3 would be the best. Maybe Im assuming that it would heat up as much? I have a problem with my stock clutch getting hot. what is the difference between the 2 and 3? I see one is kevlar? or carbon or ceramic? how do these materials work? I work with kevlar a lot and i know that it wont burn.

i have a 2000 ta that puts down 384 to the wheels, and i had a spec 3 in it. now just my opinion i think the spec was just to much clutch for an everyday driver, but i just installed a centerforce dual friction about 500 miles ago, and i love it. the pedal is not that firm, and it holds geat. from now on that what i will buy.

Chriss77 you should have purchased a Spec Stage II cluch not a stage III. It was too much clutch for your particular application. sounds liuke someone gave you bad advise. The cost difference between the Stage II and Stage III is only about $20. Now the best of both worlds can be had with the new Stage IIIF clutch, it has the smoothness of the Stage II and the strength of a Stage IV clutch (cost almost double a Stage II).
