LS1 Engine Noise

I am looking into buying an LS1 and ive noticed how loud the engines are becasue of how quiet they are. The car I was looking at when first started kinda has a small tick, like a lifter problem, then once it gets warmed up it goes away. The thing kinda sounds like it has a miss also, and it has low miles so there is no way the stock plugs should be out. Advice?

That small tick is prolly the piston slap which is most evident on 00 models. This is something that came like that from the factory, the piston walls are just a bit wider than what they should be and the piston obviously "slaps" around in there. More evident on cold start ups.

Yeah it is an 01'. Does that piston slap pose any problems, now or later? I really want an LS1 but I want one in the best condition of course.

as far as I know it isn't a problem to the motor it's just something that may drive you nuts after awhile lol.

Might be a plug wire. I had one go bad. It was arching, sounded like a tick. After a tune up it went away.

Mine's made noise since I bought it w/6k miles. If it hauls azz, don't worry about it. Mine still makes the noise, more often when cold and goes away after a bit. I have just under 12k on it now and there is no difference. Just a wierd little sound you just have to deal with.

Its nothing to worry about. There are alot of guys that have many many miles on an engine with piston slap. Some cars have it some dont.. My 00 Z28 never had it, but my 02 TA has it very slightly. Now my dads truck does it really bad, and did it off the show room floor. Its just a noise.

I bought mine at 18000 miles, and it had the tick. Now, at 69000, it still has the tick.
It's so common, the dealership would not do anything about it.
It would not keep me from buying another...

I would not Worry about it...I've had that noise since my car was Brand new... It now has 34000 miles on it.. Although I have noticed since I've changed My Brand of Motor oil..From moble 1 to Royal Purple It seems to have gotten a little bit less noise.
