Overkill

I recently got an engine plaque for my car, now I have a 2000 LS1 which IS EGR equipped. The plaque is for non-EGR models as it sits right in front of the right head where the EGR pump is, so I'm considering doing one of two things. Getting a LS6 intake, a new cam, deleting the EGR and calling it good. Or the less costly alternative, just trimming the plate a little so it fits around my egr pump. Thoughts? Ideas?

Get the LS6 intake, it's good for 15 hp.

Oooh I've been wanting one of those for a while now. I would say get the LS6 intake and do the EGR delete. It will look so much better with the pump out of the way. I am going to be getting rid of mine in a couple of weeks and I can't wait. I say clean up that engine bay!!!!!

Plus you pick up a few extra hp.

Get rid of the pump. It does clean up the engine bay. Just remember you will need LS1 edit to remove your SES light. But if you plan on putting a cam in any way you will nedd it for a tune. So two birds with one stone.

I had a performance shop here quote me $450.00. Seemed kind of high.

They have to pull the engine out and tear it apart to get that cam in there don't they? I'm gonna need pushrods and springs too right?

No they don't have to pull the engine. Yes you will want to change the springs and go with hardened push rods. Here is a step-by-step guide to changing a cam on a LS1;

Look it over and you will see that it's not that hard to do. I am thinking about installing my own.

Might not be that hard, but the TIME, dang. I'm kinda excited about getting a newer cam now. You guys talked me into it, thanks.

That's a pretty radical cam. You're going to need a good tune so you better get it done near or by someone with a good tuning program. Also I highly doubt an LS6 intake manifold will get you 15 hp on a stock motor(unless that's to the crank)
Here's the specs to a stock LS1 cam
LS1 Camshaft Specifications
1998 - 2000 Fbody
202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
116 LSA
That's quite a jump in lift, and that's a big duration too. Sounds like a forced induction cam.

Figure 1

As you can see in figure 1, the cam I'm going with is mild to average. Guy I'm buying it from said he noticed a big HP increase in his Corvette that was N/A. I plan on getting it done by JBA, those guys kick ass.

A tune will get the most out of that cam, but with a M6 it will still be very steetable. It's not as important with a M6 car to have it tuned. I say go for it man!

A guy from thunderracing said the LS6 intake manifold is the reason why the 2001/2002 LS1's run 13.5's and the 1998-2000 run 13.8's. Seems like a pretty good upgrade, specially if your going to change cams.
