I am a huge fan of Royal Purple. It is a true synthetic, unlike all the others advertise. I also use the K&N oil filter. it filters a fine microns but still allows a higher volume of flow. If you can't find these, My second option would be mobil one oil and filter.

I mainly use Mobil 1 and Valvoline. I mainly use AC-Delco oil filters.

I'm not a big fan on synthetics but as far as the filter goes, of the reports I have seen Purulator Gold (made by WIX) is one of your better filters.

There is a Consumer Reports test they did on NYC Cabs that may enlighten you on how much money you could waste on oil. They ran all types of oils (Dino and Synthetic) in these cabs. They did different oil change intervals (3000 and 6000 miles) and after 60k miles or so they tore down these engines down and every one exhibited the same amount of engine wear. There was no noticable difference. I personally did not like reading this report. It goes against everything I believed in.

Non the less, I still change my oil every 2500 miles with Castrol GTX 10W-30 and a WIX filter. I've used Castrol 20W-50 and a WIX filter in my 94 Yukon since I've owned it. It now has over 200K miles on it and only burns maybe a 1/2 quart of oil between oil changes. And that is with the original motor. So, Dino oil and a WIX filter can't be doing all that bad! It works for me!

Thumbs up Oh Yeah

I was hoping I would see someone using Castrol!! Used it since I've had my '95 and had no problems. Altough I use 5W-30 like the manual says.

Yea, I saw that. But being I live out here in the desert, lows only reach into the 30's for one month out of the year. Every other time it's pretty much shorts weather. So I decided to go with the 10W-30. I will probably bump it up to 10W-40 in the summer time when we may have 90's and 100's for a 3 month + stretch!

What would really help is if we could find a chart on different filter test.
Maybe we could find out the flow #'s, filtration media type, microns,
Everyone has different opinions on the filters and oil, but how do we honestly know whats happening. Looking at the color of the oil? cutting a filter open and seeing trash in it? I just like to see hard numbers without a biased opinion.

My data on the Purulator Gold came from just such a comparison. I will research the web pages that I got the data from and post the links in a future reply.

The following link is were I derived at my conclusions about oil filters. The author is by no means a scientist, but he was very thourgh in breaking down and analysing a bunch of filters.
