99 Z 28 Vs 03 Mach 1

my brother just bought a 03 Mach 1. its supposed to have 305 hp, crank or RW dont know
the Z is supposed to have 305 as well. his is comepletly stock, i doubt he'll do any mods
i have underdirve pullies, crank/alt, air lid and K&n, took screan out of MAF, front/rear sway bars, strut tower brace and panhard bar.
i asked when were going to track, he said never. i laughed, he said dont let me see you on the interstate, i laughed again. both are stick, hes owned several other stangs.
any ideas on roll ons? just curious, thanks

Ford Claims 305 or 310 out of the DOHC cobra motor.... but if u look @ the same motor n a 98 or 99 cobra.... it only put down like 250RWHP even the brand new 03 supercharged cobras only have like 340-350rwhp even though ford fanatics will rant n rave that it pushes over 400 to the wheels... riiiiiight....

i've raced a mach 1, 03 non-supercharged,and i spanked him so bad ,i ran a 13.8,and he was stock running a 14.3,so you being an ls1 should really put him down to where he belongs..

Well I am not sure where you guys are getting your info but anyway

96 - 98 cobra's made around 305hp flywheel (15% Drive train loss 265rwhp)

99 - 01 cobras made around 320hp flywheel(15% Drive train loss 278rwhp)

03 cobras make 390 flywheel. Ford under rated it a bit because of the over rated 99 cobra. Some 03 cobras dynoed at 370 rwhp so I think it would be safe to say they are making a little more then 390 at the flywheel with a 15% drive train loss

Here is the basic specs on the 03 Mach 1

Engine MOD 4.6L DOHC V8
Displacement 4.6L, 281 cu. in.
Horsepower @ rpm 305 @ 6000
Torque lb.-ft. @ rpm 320 @ 4250
Compression Ratio 10.1:1
Fuel System Sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection
Final Drive Ratio 3.55:1

Here are some stock 1/4 times I found in a few Magazines I have

Tom Wilson--5.0/SF Apr03 (NV) Yellow 5spd--- n / a, 13.82_ @ 101.01

Jack Keebler----M/T Dec02 (n/a) Red-- 5spd--- n / a, 13.60_ @ 102.5

Evan Smith--MM/FF Mar03 (NJ) Gray-- 5spd--- 2.07, 13.135 @ 105.51 (DRAG RADIALS)

Since Drag racing is mostly driver anything can really happen. I have seen 03 cobras running low 14 with crappy drivers as well as SS running mid to low 14's. Anyway thats my 02 cents

Kevin

Ok let me let ya in on something.

I wouldnt have believed it if I didnt see it myself.

a 2003 Ford Mustange Cobra SUPERCHARGED from factory with cat back and lid, put down 435 corrected at the r.w's on dyno and 476 uncorrected at the r.w's on the dyno.

Even the old guy who owned it was shocked to say the least.

I raced one the other day at E-town and he pulled off a 12.0 flat to my 12.89 run.

Amazing. STILL WOULDNT GET RID OF MY LS1 THOUGH!

Ford undersizes their horse for a reason. Insurance would be TOO high and thus have an effect on their sales to younger males. Young men have a hard time with insurance as it is, imagine them like, " Um yes State Farm. I would like to know how much it would be to put full coverage on my '03 Mustang putting out 435 at the rear wheels?"
State Farm:
" Sir, are you out of your mind, or just insanely rich? It would cost.. hold on here, let me get my computer up for you. Holy Cow! 23,000 a month! Would you like to pay that in 6 month incriments or pay per month for 10 months with a 2 month downpayment?"

Person trying to insure the car:

" Umm, err, uhhhh, ugggh, gulp ( PASSES OUT AT THIS POINT! )

Hope that helps ya out

First off Fords do not have lids, so he could not have just had a lid and catback!!!
Second there is NO WAY IN HELL that a Cobra would put those #s down with those mods. And if you beleive him that that is all he has done to his car you are gullible as hell.
Those Cobras don't put that much HP at the flyweel much less the ground.
I race every week end and see plenty of Cobras at the track. Ones with those mods run 12.40s-50s! AT BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I have some of what you are smoking?

my guess would be cold air intake, exhaust and a new pulley would MAYBE push those numbers... i mean dont get me wrong theres guys that'l push 500rwhp out of an 03 cobra.. we have a guy like that around here.... byt he still couldnt break 11's even on "slicks"

not that any cares but i am not that impressed with the mach 1 and 03 cobra COMPARED to the 02 ss or ws6... anyone can be fast with a supercharged from the factory... but they only did that b/c they were gettin beat by an ls1 car...PERIOD!!!and just for the record ALL mach 1's are just 32 valve dohc 4.6 v8's NON supercharged. and the 03 and only 03 cobra's are 32 valve dohc 4.6 liter v8 with a supercharger... and THIS I AM GUESSING ON this but i think they run about 6 psi stock.

Guys,
I think that a lot of cobra owners are upping their superchargers P.S.I. . It would be a very CHEAP way to get H.P. but hard on the motor. Easy to do...change pully dia and belt. Also could change rev limiter.
I have a 99z28ss and a Factory Five Racing cobra. My cobra is 420 RWHP @5700 (2 1/2 days of duno). The car is too light (2200 lbs) so I short shift @ 5k. I believe that my dyno printouts read something like 365 RWHP @ that RPM. Big difference for a little more boost!
Thanks,
z28ss

well what kind of motor does your rep. cobra have in it... the car sthey use the most parts from are a fox body mustang with a 5.0. so how does that relate to a the psi in a supercharged motor? im lost and just for the record i dont think that a pulley changes the rev limiter or red line... all the pulley does is spin the supercharger faster to put more air into the engine .... the more air you get in there the more power ya make....

who gives a shat? FORDS SUCK...............................and they are UGLY as hail.

and for the record, it may just be a "Traction probelm" as the owner says, but we have an 03 slobra here with its little stupercharger on it, and mind you we only have 1/8th mile in savannah, but he only ran 8.8-8.9, when my car was bone a$$ stock it was faster than that, so now that im in the 8.4's, running him was awsome to show every one that they are all hype. .................and lets not forget how ugly they are as well
