Question Trany with a mind of it own

I would like to go back to the track and work on my times. The problem is that I have an automatic and when I shift it manually, it decides when it wants to shift. I was running low 14's untill I started shifting myself. At what point would be a good time to shift and is there anything out there that would help my shifting with out vioding my warrenty??? Thanx

I am also thinking of getting a torque converter with a 3500 stall, would that help me off the line?

YES a huge difference! Think about it a 3500 stall converter puts you right in your power band off the line. It should drop 3-5 tenths off of your 1/4 times.

I have heard that my speed is slow, it could be my delay off the line but I do not know. I wonder if something is wrong with the car? I have not been back to the track for a year so I do not know how it is doing now. Could it be my driving or the car. I mean com on its an automatic, other than launch delay time there really isnt nothing more that you can do. Light turns green, push gas to the floor and go, right?

Go on the last yellow, You're leaving too late. You need to work on your launch. A high stall converter would help you alot.

Practice and more practice! That is what it takes, I have been racing full time for 2 years now and I still learn something every time I go to the track. It is discouraging sometimes. Drag Racing is a very tough sport. Most sports you only have to wory about yourself and your ability, with racing you have to fine tune yourself and your car, with a posibility of either being off on a certain day.

are you launching by just punching it off the line when the tree goes green,or are you holding down the brake, and stalling it to the rpm that your car stalls at,and then hitting the gas???i have a b&m electronic shift kit,and it did wonders for me and my car, first off your not supposed to shift yourself, but its up to you(wear out your tranny).but the electronic shift kit is only 40.00,and it takes 2/10's of a second off your e.t's,a must have for your auto, this itself will get you into the 13's...hope you buy one,let me know if you decide to get you one..
