Question HP vs. Money

What do you all think about this? I have $1000.00 to spend on my 00 Z28. I have found these 3 things I really like.

SLP Loudmouth Exhaust with slash tips 340.00 25HP increase
SLP High Flow Y-Pipe 195.00 10HP increase
SLP Intake System Package Deal (including SLP high flow MAF, SLP air box lid, SLP cold air induction kit, SLP high flow bellows kit, and K&N filter replacement filter 450.00. 20HP increase
Total HP gain 55
Total $985.00
Any takers on this?? Please help me out. I am not going to purchase the stuff till December. For I am getting out of the military and will be home then. I am stationed in germany right now and don't want to put stuff on till i have dyno results before and after. Any replys would be much help to me.

In case you are wondering I found this stuff on a sight i just found surfing today. www.afterthoughtsauto.com

All that would be good but I'm not sure of the HP claims. Try SLP directly and see if it's cheaper. www.slponline.com And Jeff, thanks alot for your service for our country.

This is a common mistake.
You can't stack the HP gains advertized on a group of products.
You may gain more or less depending on literaly hundreds of other variables. IE the exhaust may have been rated for a 25HP gain on a six cylinder car or it might have been rated on a Z06 vette. That's where the words "up to a" come into play.
Your best bet if you want proof positive numbers is to find people with stock cars like yours that have done just one of those upgrades and get there take on it or if you find somebody that did all three of the exact same upgrades to a simular car and get there take on it.

hey bro,
where you at in germany? im stationed at ft. stewart right now. trying like hell to leave now tha the we are back from Iraq.

like they said, dont try and ad those slp hp gains together, you will be disapointed. put your money in a header and cat back system, you will be much happier with the gains and the sound.

J_fulk, as like the others said the HP gains aren't the most accurate, however, those are the first mods that are usually done. Getting the car to breathe better is essential before you do anything else to it. Im not a big fan of the SLP Cold air induction kit, however, i do use their 85mm MAF and their new smooth flow bellows (the one with the bend and buldged out center). I used TSP's 85mm airlid and had a little fitment issue where i had to trim a little bit off the bellow on the side that connects to the TB. If you want to get more serious gains and don't care too much about emission laws, go with headers and a catback like chris said.
Check out all these sites if you have the time and want to browse around.

More like this:

SLP Loudmouth Exhaust with slash tips 340.00 15HP increase
SLP High Flow Y-Pipe 195.00 5 HP increase
SLP Intake System Package Deal (including SLP high flow MAF, SLP air box lid, SLP cold air induction kit, SLP high flow bellows kit, and K&N filter replacement filter 450.00. 15 HP increase

Total HP gain more like 30 RWHP!!! Like he said you can't just take "Claimed" HP #s and add them it does not work this way.

Total $985.00

Smile

First of all thanks for the advice. To Lyle A it is everything is cheaper on the site i found the stuff on, buy 5-20 dollars. To chevymania.com thanks a lot for info. I am new to proformance stuff. I wanted to keep my 95z and the 00z stock but now i am very interested in beefing them up. To chrismcdaniel i am stationed in Germany on Anderson Barracks. Just a little post in the middle of the vinyards. Wine over here in these parts is a dime a dozen. Love it. To simmeth and mykdiver thanks a whole lot for the info. I love this site, it is so damn helpful.

How about this quote: "speed costs, how fast do you want to go" You definitely can't believe all the #'s they advertise. Keep in mind, some of the numbers advertised may be correct hp #'s at the flywheel and not the wheels.

Save money

Instead of the SLP loudmouth, go with a dynomax bullet, this will save you 300 dollars for, SLP cia, ported throttle body, or something else.

Why not go with some Pacesetter coated LT's and TSP ORY for $500. Dual Cutouts at the headers for around $50. Lid and CAI for $200. And a tune to clean it all up for $250? If I'm not mistaken that equals right at 1K and will net you some very nice gains

P.S. Look around the different forums on the internet for LS1's like here and LS1tech and such and you can find lots of good used parts to save some serious cash.
