newbie questions...

Going to be in the market for a new(er) car this spring and, honestly, had not even considered an F-body until this week. Been a big 'stang guy for the past 4 or 5 years before which I had older Chevy's ('64 Chevelle, '69 Nova). Did the 5.0 thing most recently and have been serving time in 4cyl S10 hell since it was wrecked about a year ago.

Aaaanyway, just looking for some input on what to/what not to look for. I've been eyeing '98 Cobra's but would consider a clean M6. Am I better off with an LT1 or LS1, SS or Z (for other than obvious hp reasons). How about the WS6 cars? What are each gen's strength's/weaknesses? Are GM interiors/rear ends/clutches really that shoddy (again, Ford guy here...lol)?

Any light you could shed would be appreciated. Like i said my Chevy experience ends @ about 1973 and from there on out its been late model Fords. Thanks in advance, Brian

I'd pick an LS-1 over an LT-1 but either is a good engine. Try to stay 95 or newer on the LT-1's though.

The rear is definately a weak link. It's about as strong as a 8" ford rear if that gives you any ideas.
I have no prefference between the SS or Z but if you see WS6 that's good. The WS6 is a handling and brake pakage. This pakage puts it about 2 steps behind the vette in handling and braking.

The clutches are not that bad. Of course you can get a RAM or ZOOM clutch for the car super easy and they will be plenty strong for a street car.

The interior is another matter.
All cars, not just chevy's, have gravitated to that chincy plastic crap. It seems to have gotten a little better in the very late 90's early 00's but for the most part all interiers are the same. The better you take care of it the better it will look and longer it will last!!!

Happy hunting!!
And welcome to Z28.com
Were always happy to convert another ford guy!

P.S.
Where's the 69 nova??? I want another!!!

One word of advice, If the deal sounds to good to be true, take a few minutes and do a car fax report on it. Or you could ask the dealer to do it for you.

Other that that , great find Good luck. Hope to see ya around the site as a new F-bod owner.
