Question Question re AMSOIL sythetic trans fluid

Anybody have any past experience with AMSOIL ATF transmission fluids (or AMSOIL in general)?

I was going to use Mobil 1 fluid but I have had several people try and talk me into this stuff. I can find nothing but good things on the net but I want to hear from someone who has actualy used it.

Any feed would be appreciated.

DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC TRANNY FLUID, you will burn out your clutch packs and bands. Amsoil is a great company but as I stated use regular tranny fluid. Synthetic fluid allows things to spin easier right? Well on a tranny the cluch packs and bands require friction to grip. Save your money and transmission and just do regular services.

I'm curious about the same thing. I need to change my trans fluid. I always hear people recommending synthethics....but then there are people who are completely against it. Whether its synthetic or dyno juice...it's it basically the same thing? I thought synthetics are just more free flowing and are more resistant to breakdown under extreme conditions. Synthetics can lubricate more surfaces faster than conventional oil. How can a more slippery surface be damaging? All I can see is slower engagement, therefore slower acceleration. Am I missing something? This has been bothering me for a while...which is probably why I haven't changed the trans fluid yet.

That is for A4's. Inside there are the friction surfaces for shifting. Now if you make these more slippery all you are doing is making it so it is more difficult for the bands to grip. I am a firm believer in Synthetic fluids except tranny fluid. Notice in this kit the brown lookin pieces, those are parts of the clutch pacs and bands

Whats a good brand for non-synthetic transmission fluid? and where do you get it? Most places have the Dexron III but they are synthetic fluids. I have a manual transmission. Is there a gasket, filter or anything that has to be replaced during a trans fluid change or is it just the fluid?

According to the owners manual there is a filter that has to be replaced. Also a gasket.
Ben Frankers web site is for chaning the fluid in a M6. I have an A4. Does anyone know how to change the trans fluid? Do I just drop the pan? Is there any other cleaning necessary? I am assuming that I fill it up via the check valve under the hood?
Thanks again.

For an A4, you need about 6 quarts of Dextron III, and a filter kit. Carefully drop the pan, since you are bound to make a mess. The make sure all of the old gasket is off, followed by takeing off the old filter. To remove the filter you just pull down on it, make sure the o'ring comes off with it. Then clean the inside of the pan and pop the new filter in. All thats left is bolting up the pan and fill her up. after about 5 quarts run the car to circulate the tranny fluid. Check your level and add acordingly. When you think its good, as a double check, put your foot on the brake and go slowly through each gear. This just makes fluid go through different passages. Check it again and all set.

For the manual you can use a synthetic, you dont have the clutch packs and bands to worry about.

Great description. I will be doing this tomorrow.

I'm using Amsoil in my Car Everywhere from Power Steering, Gears, Tranny, and Engine 0W-30. Have never had a problem and everytime it's due for a change the stuff looks as clean as it did going in. Internally parts look beautiful also.

ANY Dextron III rated fluid synthetic or otherwise wise work just fine. I ran Royal Purple synthetic ATF in my C5 for 100,000 miles without any problems. Friction is your enemy not your friend.
