Lt1 Oil Leak

Has anyone stopped the famous LT1 rear intake oil leak with an oil additive??? If so...what brand works best. I hate to pull it apart for a little leak like this.

I talked to a guy from Speedsouth which is a performance place in Pelham Alabama and he said its probably not a rear main seal. I told him my mechanic says it was. He says it looks like a rear main seal leak but its really the intake leaking. The LT1 was supposedly made for automatic which will have no backpressure due to downshifting. So when you downshift it blows that intake gasket out and shoots oil up and out of the intake. I was a little bashful about it at first but it kinda makes sense. Mine does it too. If you replace the gasket then dont downshift or youll blow it right out again.

Yea I knew it was the intake I seen it when I did the clutch I'd really like to stop it without pulling the intake off That's why I was asking about info on a GOOD oil stopleak additive. (But it's fun to downshift)

There really is no oil pressure at the back of the intake manifold where the leak occurs. Any stop leak would probably not work. Besides, why put aything but oil in you engine? The leak is not a gasket per say but a bead of silicone to form a seal on the back of the manifold. Mine leaks a little. It doesn't really leave any on the ground just makes a mess on the trans and sometimes gets burned by exhaust. One of these days I'll fix it,when I can leave my car to sit for a day to let the silicone cure.

Yeah, just redo it with enough slicone, and make sure it cures good, that should solve your problem.
Man am I glad I have an LS1!!!!!! NO LEAKS!!!!!

But, you have to take the manifold off to do it right?

yeah the same thing is happening to my 96Z the oil leaks down from the intake gasket onto the rear main making it look like a rear main leak. You might also want to change or check you pvc valve so as to make sure you're not building pressure in the engine which would cause the oil to find a weak spot, say in your gasket. I plan on changing the pvc valve first to see if i can prevent having to tear off the intake manifold and replacing the gaskets.

Stumbled into this thread on another search...

But wanted to recommend Permatex's "Right Stuff" (FTW!)

Put it on, torque it down and start it up! (At least that's what Permatex says.)

I still give it a *bit* of time to cure, but it doesn't require 24 hrs like copper or black do.

(Hopefully I won't be using it again any time soon, though! I'm running pretty well anywhere that I'd be using RTV.

its not a bad of a job, better do it right now, then to have to do it all over again.
