wow thats alot of money. the only thing you can for now is to pay it, unless you and your dad shop around for different rates/companys,being as you are on under his policy. i'm sure v6 to v8 will be more. i 'm not sure, and don't want to scare you, but you would probably be close to 2500 bucks a year.
let me you what happens

When I was looking at buying a car I explained to the car salesman that I couldn't afford the insurance for it. They usually have some connections, and will do what they have to to make the sale. Sure enough he called some of his connections at various insurance companies, put in a good word for me, and one of them cut my coverage rates for the car in half. Just realize that if you do get a ticket, or in an accident your special rate will probably be thrown out the window, and you'll be stuck with a couple thousand in insurance every year.

I'm about to buy a 97 Z28 and insurance will cost me $2,600 a year and I'm only 17. But I can afford it cause I make about $7,000 a year at my job and the car I'm buying is only $6,000 (already have the money for that, been saving for a loooooong time). Hope that helps!

P.S. The insurance company I'm going through is Nationwide and the car will be on my dad's policy. If you know your insurance agent well, have him/her put the cheapest car you guys have insured in your name, thats where you get the cheapest rate.

ask the insurance company if they have a extra course in my area you can get up to 30% off of any policy by going thru drivers ed, getting a decent grade point average and completeing the insurance company's course, It's basically an at home booklet and you complete it and you get 10% off. It's called steerclear and it's for anyone 16-25. If you complete all three it helps your insurance so much, but a word of warning if you are on your parents insurance don't do anything really stupid, since you will get the whole family kicked and you will be with out a car and insurance.
