Another question about gas mileage

I made a post a little while ago about my 99 T/A A4 only getting about 22-23 mpg on the highway and was curious why it wasnt getting in the upper 20's like most people in the forum. Well i was alittle worried about my city because back then i hadn't gotten a chance to check the city. well it turns out that im getting very good gas mileage, around 18-20 in city. my question is why is my highway so ****************ty compared to the in city? shouldnt there be a bigger jump in mpg than 2 or 3? I have also noticed that i get A LOT worse gas mileae when using 93 octane vs 91 like 20 mpg highway vs. 23. could be a brand difference but i dont know. I drove back up to school last night and got around 20 mpg on a 200 mile trip but my dad filled up the tank and i dont know what brand he used. I normaly go with shell 91 octane v-power.

Most guys getting upper 20s have Manual transmissions, 6th gear is a wonderful gas saver.

I stopped going by mileage. Now I just count by dollars and days. $20 gets me through 3-4 days. $30 gets me through 4-5. Miles? I gave up on them a while back.

I dont get the best milage but I do alot of around town driving with a 3200 stall and 2.73 gears. Its like shooting myself in the foot, when I drop in the 3.73's it will get better.

I am a college student who commutes 30 min to school each day, I would say that its half highway but I average about 18-21 mpg depending how I drive that week. A full tank generally lasts me a little under a week, I average about 250-300 miles a week. And I am Auto.

It is your driving habits, if you stay around 70 MPH on the freeway you will get the higher 20's mpg, but its when you go over the 2k mark in our A4's it will suck more gas. As far as fill up ill go with Chevron or Shell, and throw 20 or 30 in ever few days.

well this relieves alot of pressure, from hearing alot of people talk about their cars getting upper twenties with an M6 makes alot of sense if im getting low to mid 20's on the highway with my A4. im getting really good city witch i like alot around 18-20, made 20 city on the the last fill up, so over all im pleased to hear nothing is wrong with my car.
