? on ASR

I recently purchased a 1998 Z28 and I love the car. It is my third camaro and I hope this on is as great a car as the others. I have the local speed shop working on a plan for modification. I do have a few questions. The car has 77,000 miles but seems to be in very good shape mechanically. Should I be afraid of major changes?
The car has ASR and it turns itself on when the car is started. I would like to change that so I have to turn it on, and what does ASR stand for. Can this be done?
This is a great site and it is a great resource for info.
Thanks

SLP and RKSport both sell a plug-in that goes between the ASR switch and its plug on the back of it the reverses that so you turn it on yourself. I can't remember what it stands for, but its for traction control, good on wet pavement or snow. Good luck with it and glad to see another happy new owner.
