No ASR switch in 2000 Z28 Vert (A4)

Does anyone know why there is not an ASR switch in this car? Stock, would it have a limited slip, and any ideas on rear gears? Does that mean the computer will keep you from accelerating if it senses a slip? How to keep the My '98 Z/A4 does have an ASR switch and limited slip.

May be a dumb question, but sometimes you won't know 'till someone with more experience and knowledge weighs in.

Thanks,

Jim

ASR is not a standard option, only some cars have it.

They all have limited slip rear ends. If you have a manual it has 3.42's. If you have an automatic is has 3.23s. You will have either a torsen carrier (completely mechanical) or an auburn carrier (which uses clutches). Limited slip means that if one wheel starts to slip the other one engages evenly so that you are not just spinning one wheel.

ASR is just traction control. It's reverse ABS. When it sees you slipping upon acceleration, it pulls timing and kicks your foot off the gas pedal to keep you from putting it in a ditch. It needs to be turned off at the track.

Thanks alot for the quick response. So if it doesn't have the ASR switch, if you try to do a burnout or you start to spin the wheels it will pull timing and kick your foot off? There's nothing to prevent this?

no... if you don't have the asr switch you don't have asr so you can spin them all day
Basically all asr does is prevent you from slipping say if you floor it on ice or just floor it off the line it will basically like Kelly said kick in to help you not get out of control. So basically if you don't have asr you can floor it and do a burnout where when asr is on it won't let you do this it will probably chirp the tires asr will kick in basically limiting the throttle until you gain traction. though asr equipped cars you can turn it off. I'm happy my car doesn't have asr so I don't have to mess with it I don't drive it in snow anyways. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Now go do a burnout

Gotcha!!! I was thinking in reverse. My '98 has ASR and I forgot I turn it off every time I get in my car except when it snows. This is cool! Thanks Brian and Kelly I appreciate ya.

if you turn the ASR off every time you're in your 98 how come you dont just get something like that slp tcs module that you just plug in to the ASR so its automatically off and you turn it on when you want it, instead of bein on all the time, its off all the time

I have that the SLP TCS module its nice but in reality just press the button and get used to doing it, someone else told me removing the fuse would give the same effect as the SLP TCS you just could not turn the ASR off when you wanted
