99 C5 vs 99 Z28

What’s it going to take to beat a 99 6 speed C5. Talking to the owner, it was quite funny. Just saying all this crap about camaro junk this, junk that. I told him they had the same engines. He said no way. He said if his C5 has a camaro engine in it, he would get rid of it tomorrow. I said, your C5 doesn’t have a camaro engine in it. My camaro has a corvette engine in it. Boy that really pissed him off. Then he was like you cant beat me, I have a 6 speed. I was like, hmmm, so do I, he’s like no “A SIX SPEED TRANSMISSION" I was like yeah, me too. He wasn’t pleased about that. Then he went on to say he has 345hp and I only had 305. I stated that the SS was rated up there and that all I needed was an intake and exhaust. I never degraded his C5 and stated that I understood his car was a better car. he’s a state farm agent, I said, I bet you your 1 month pay check to my 1 month pay check I beat you. He makes more in 1 month then I do all year lol. It was a win win for me. He’s a friend of the family, and a nice guy, but this seamed to push his buttons. This was over dinner, at the beginning of dinner it was a dead stop run. By the end of dinner he wanted a roll on at about 30mph. He’s completely stock expect for F1 tires (I believe) and said hes weighs around 3300? I’m not familiar with vettes other then what I’ve read here. so have I stuck my foot in my mouth? I completely understand that I have no chance outside of a straight run, and probably none from a roll on, and it wouldn’t mean much to me if I lost, I just want to dent his ego as much as possible, is that so bad lol. So with the mods I’ve done so far, how far off am I? I have some time, with the crappy weather, but think the only thing I could afford would be gears, and even then I'm only putting in 3.73's thanks

also, what difference is there in the engines? even the internal parts? thanks again.
If I can't beat him on the road, maybe I could at least beat him at the dinner table lol

I think they're basically the same engines, from what i've heard from other guys. But then again I dont really know that much about Corvette's. But on another note, have you thought about 4.10's since you have an M6? I've heard that if you have an A4 go with 3.73's and if you have an M6 go with 4.10's.

With your mods and a 3:73 or 4:10, you can demolish him. You have to play for keeps though and be willing to push that bitch as hard as she can go. See, corvettes have a small wheel base and tons of tire, so they hook up quite well. Make sure that if you do this, get some drag radials, and don't let him move on you, go heads up.

Oh and the only difference in the C5 is a slightly different intake. As far as the rest, they are identical.

The Corvette Ls1 motor has a little more hp than the camaro. They did that so the vette has more hp. But the difference is that he is lighter than you. So he is able to go faster. But it also depends on how good of drivers you are to. If he is a pro then you will have some trouble. I doubt he is though. If he had a Z06 you probably wouldn't stand a chance no matter what his skill. But you have one thing he doesn't. An extra 20grand layin around. I'm not saying litteraly. I have a freind with a Ferrari and he still has more money than me. Even though he spent more.

thanks for the info. was thinking the 373 because its a daily driver and i drive between ohio and DC monthly. didn't want to loose too much highway mpg. not that it would compare to my truck only getting 13 on the highway. but it feels nice getting more miles per tank with half the gas lol. eventually i intend to do heads and cams. just dont forsee the cash flow for it anytime soon. I still need decent tires too, but the practical side of me cant see throwing away tires that still have thread on them. couple more burns outs should do the trick lol. Its basically anything i said was wrong and that he wouldnt allow anything between the two cars match or be interchangable. ingorance is bliss. but i dont care as long as im happy lmao thanks again

what type of driving is that? the most I've gotten so far is 26 with the stock 3.42's. that's driving with cruise set at 70-75 on the PA turnpike. I'm sure I'd get better if i did the speed limit lol
