Ok...can Someone Explain This????

OK... ive been talkin to tyler.. and im trying to figure out wat gears i have... he has stock 3.42's i beleave it is.. and on my car i have the GU2 code, so that means 2.73's rite? soooo... why in the heck are our rpms the same when going certain mph??? for example, at 70 mph...my rpms are at 21-2200 rpms... and at 80mph... we are at the same aswell.. what does this mean? do i have 3.42's aswell or wat?

sorry #2, but I cant remember what trans you have in the car? The specs on your car would be more helpful...

Yeah, if it's a stick, you have 3.42s. If you have an auto, it'll be a 2.73 or a 3.23.

its an auto.. and so is tylers... so i guess we both have 3.23's? than that means sombody screwed with my rearend, and that could be the reason its freakin whining!!!

*edit* also.. is there a way to tell if my rear end has be replaced with another one? cuz now i dont even kno if its still a 2 carrier, or a 3 carrier... and when i buy gears... its gunna suck finding the rite ones...

not sure if it is true on the LS1, but on the LT1 it is like this

if you gear selector goes to :

P,R,N,O/D,D,2,1 then you have 323's\

if your selector shows

P,R,N,O/D,D,2 then you have 273's


Like I said, I am not positive this applys to the LS1, I know it is true for the LT1

ok.. well if its true.. than i have 323's cuz my car i can put it all the way in 1st... and it has the 1 selector... mine is exactly as the first one u showed... hmm maybe the door on my car has been changed.. today hopefully i remember ima see if the vin on the door matches the vin on the car

Its not true, you should have a 2.73 goin by the door codes, but the only way you are gonna truly be able to tell is to pull the cover and count the teeth. Will help ya figure out the carrier to.

if you put the back end up and spin the tire and see how many times the tire goes around and how many times the drive shaft goes around you'll be able to tell the gear ratio from that as well instead of pullin the cover then having to replace fluid
